Helping People Who Need it Most

Here’s to one of the best and most socially responsible ideas I’ve seen in a long time.  Google Grand Central is a free voice mail service aimed at San Francisco’s homeless population that will allow them to setup a vmail account that looks and sounds like any regular vmail service would, complete with a local phone number.  Homeless people could then use their permanent phone number to receive messages from family, job prospects, health clinics, etc.   FANTASTIC!

I’m sure there will be a host of ultra right wing conservatives (guys like Glen Beck) who will chastise this  program and  promote it as an initiative that is simply enabling people to become homeless so they can enjoy all of the luxuries and free stuff that comes along with that particular “lifestyle”.

For what it is worth…I think it is a great idea and something that should be offered in all major cities, especially at a time when so many people are losing their homes to foreclosure.

Cheers to Google!
