The long awaited arrival of my perpetually back ordered Trek Soho S bicycle finally concluded today. Below are some pics. Since today was a work day for me, I only had a few minutes to ride it this afternoon after picking it up at the
Carrollwood Bike Emporium this morning.

It was totally worth the 3 months that I waited for it, not to mention the fact that because I paid for it back in June, I was able to get the 2008 price for the 2009 model, which saved me about $100. KC and I will be hitting Tampa’s
Bayshore Blvd later this evening. I’m stoked.

The matte black finish and black details give it a totally stealth appearance, which I like since it likely won’t catch the eye of would-be bike jackers and thieves.

Riding a single speed bike is sort of like getting out of a car with a manual transmission and driving something with an automatic transmission. You have the tendency to want to shift gears, but quickly realize that not only is it unnecessary, but simply isn’t an option. This bike is definitely fast and surprisingly nimble for its 20″ frame size. The lack of shifting components keeps the weight on this bike down quite a bit. Trek says the bike weighs about 20 lbs, but it feels like slightly less than that to me, although I haven’t gone so far as to put it on a scale yet.

Aside from the bottle cage, the only customization I had done to this bike was a change to these
Bontrager handlebars, which provide slightly wider grip placement and a clever spot to run a U lock through. These are the same bars that came stock on last year’s model of the Trek Soho (the next model up from the Soho S under
Trek’s Urban bike lineup).

Ride Safe.

ShareThis

My close friend and business partner, Jordy “Stooli” Boss co-hosts a weekly podcast out of Ottawa, ON called
Last week they taped a pilot for Rogers TV (cable 22) in Ottawa.

Aside from Russell’s attachment to his script notes early on, which can easily be attributed to first show jitters, I thought the pilot was entertaining. The shot in the 2nd segment of Shredder appearing as though he was taking an on air nap in the midst of (James Duffy) their 1st caller’s, soliloquy was classic.

I would like to see the guys go ahead and make a regular series of the show. If you favor sports-talk type shows, I recommend checking it out. If you’re a Sens fan and you haven’t seen it already, wake up…you’re missing some quality banter.

Last month,
TechCrunch’s Mark Hendrickson did a write up of a new tag cloud search widget called
Quintura.

After reading his review, I decided to check it out and give the product a run on Jcyreus dot Com.

The Good: This seems like a neat tool if your blog or website is absent of any real search functionality. When I set up my account, Quintura indexed my site within a few minutes and my widget code was ready to go. If you have the space on your main page, it could be something fun and potentially useful for your visitors. They also have a
kid’s version of the Quintura tag cloud, which I figure would be a fun thing for the little ones to play with on age appropriate web sites.

Since the format of my blog doesn’t really allow for a wide enough space on the main [Index] page, I decided to add a page to Jcyreus and call it “
Advanced Search” (this strategy also gave me the ability to track the usage of the tag cloud so that after a few months I would know whether to keep it or scrap it if it wasn’t being utilized by any of my readers).

The Bad: What I’ve found after about 3 weeks of having the extra page on my site is that with tags already listed in a prominent position on my main page as well as a Google web and site search tool in my header, there is very little need for a tertiary utility for searching within Jcyreus.

The Ugly: I’m fairly certain that Quintura is still in the beta testing phase of this product’s release. Considering this, I will chalk up the day that my widget’s text was rendering in the Cyrillic alphabet / Russian language to the newness of the product. They seemed to notice the bug and get it fixed by the next day.

Overall, it seems like they are headed in the right direction and I’ll probably keep the advanced search page around for awhile to see how things continue to develop with Quintura.
