The city is expecting over 40,000 spectators to descend on downtown for the festivities that will start at 1pm this Saturday (7/19). KC and I are using the event as an opportunity to help our closest friends out with some free parking downtown (since we live within walking distance) and our official house warming party now that we’ve been back in town for 3 months.

With the big news we received last week about the sale of our home, I wasn’t able to post a weekly wrap up. Not just because I didn’t have time to write it, but with all of the back and forth in bidding on our new purchase, then scheduling inspections and making preparations for the move, I was challenged to keep up with everything that was happening around us.

While the past few days haven’t been much better, we have accomplished quite a bit and I was able to catch up on a few interesting things that I thought you might enjoy. Here is the best of what I found in the little time that I had this week…

This Week’s Top Pick: Adam Clark from the
Lance Armstrong Fund posted a
story about Johns Atkinson, a 39-year old, never-smoker, survivor of stage IV
lung cancer. John is now one of 5 semi-finalist in the
Tiger Woods Golf Challenge with an opportunity to play in a celebrity
golf tournament prior to the 2008 US Open. To win, he needs the votes of the American public. If you would like to help John like I did this morning, you can go to
Golf Digest US Open Contest and vote for him up to once per day during the month of April.

While trolling through my overloaded collection of RSS feeds earlier this week, I noticed that
Engadget redesigned their layout to offer a content body that is a little wider and a little easier to read than the cramped look and feel that they were sporting earlier.

Speaking of blogs needing a redesign for a more user friendly experience…last week, in
WinningtheWeb’s craziest Internet Contest Ever, I won a customer Wordpress theme from
FutureROI (a $200 value). Thanks Gyutae and Christopher! Jcyreus readers should see the new look in a few weeks.

That is all I had time for this week. Looking forward, the next 4 weeks should prove challenging to say the least. Considering that it is now mid-April and there was a fresh coat of snow on the groung this morning here in
Wisconsin, moving day can’t come soon enough.

Divine Caroline dot Com’s Brie Cadman taught be about the
worst artery cloggers in America (I may never eat French fries again).

Guyutae’s
“Craziest Internet Marketing Contest” is now up to $13,647 in prizes and Jcyreus dot Com could really benefit from a blog makeover! Drawing is set to be held April 2.

I read about then downloaded a great blog composing tool on
TechCrunch called Zemanta. It works real well for Wordpress bloggers in the way that it integrates with the Wordpress admin console and helps to find relevant news articles, external links, images and generates tags as you compose each new post. You can test drive a
demo here and download the application for free if you would like to give it a try (Jcyreus recommended).

I found out from Tommy at
Sticks of Fire that Google Maps finally added Street View for downtown Tampa (now I have something to do this weekend while waiting for my house to sell in Wisconsin).

And finally, MrGaryLee taught John Chow dot Com’s readers just how easy it is to
produce and syndicate Podcasts using a Mac (now I really can’t wait to get my hands on a MacBook Pro).

I hope this weekend is a great one for you. I think I’ll head out for a run to see if I can’t shed a few of those winter lbs before the weather warms up.
